Brixham, Buckland and Stoke Gabriel all taste victory

The semi-pro contingent from South Devon delivered a hat-trick of victories on the weekend, all in very different circumstances.

Brixham made it four wins on the trot in the Western League and, despite struggling to score goals early in the campaign, the Fishermen have now conceded just twice in their last nine outings.

The latest victory came with a typically hardworking and stubborn display at high-flying Street, where defender Sean Adderley broke the deadlock with 12 minutes remaining and young forward Jaden Maslen added some late gloss.

After a midweek meeting with Okehampton Argyle in the Devon Bowl, Brixham host Portishead Town in the league on Saturday.

Buckland Athletic, meanwhile, were on FA Vase duty against Peninsula League visitors Callington Town, and the Bucks were made to work extremely hard before edging through on penalties.

Buckland twice trailed on a sunny afternoon at Homers Heath, Ryan Bush scoring a brace of equalisers, the second arriving in the dying seconds to send the game to penalties, where goalkeeper Adam Seedhouse-Evans donned the hero mantle for a place in the next round.

Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police hosted Peninsula League leaders Cullompton Rangers at Broadley Lane and triumphed 4-2 in a fabulous match.

Stoke were full of energy in the opening stages and surged in front when 16 year-old Fin Herbert swept a fine finish into the top corner. Cully replied almost immediately, only for Saul Vanes to restore the home lead with a lovely low free-kick.

The visitors were reduced to ten men before half-time but still found an equaliser immediately after the restart and forced home goalkeeper Chris Wearing into a string of outstanding saves.

Stoke, however, also created numerous chances and finally edged in front with a sweet volley from Vanes in the final minutes, with Ben Aldous then rounding the Cully ‘keeper for a great win.
