Torbay athlete races to national victory

Paige Quinn of Torbay AAC, under the guidance of coach Hayley Ratcliff, is the U15 Saucony National Cross-Country champion of 2024.

The championship, held at Weston Park near Telford, saw Quinn clinch the U15 title with a commanding 16-second lead.

Originally scheduled for February but postponed due to a waterlogged course, the event took place under sunny skies on a beautiful course.

In a field of 174 competitors from across the country, Quinn positioned herself just behind the leading pack early on. As she overtook runners one by one, she ultimately finished first, showcasing her strength against some of the top cross-country runners in the country and Europe.

Paige described the moment she overtook Olivia Forrest as a strange feeling, having never been in that position before, but she tried to remain calm and composed throughout the race.

This victory marks a significant milestone for both Quinn and Ratcliff, as it is their first national title as athlete and coach.

Following a tough track season affected by injury, Quinn's perseverance and hard work were rewarded with this major victory. Crossing the finish line tape banner for the very first time was an extraordinary and proud moment for her, her coach, Hayley Ratcliff, and her club, Torbay AAC.
