Remarkable relay performance from Torbay Tri Club

By Jon Pressling

Torbay Tri Club's male and female V40 teams made it double success, taking age group titles at the South Devon Athletic Club 3k Relays on Torbay Velopark.

The club was represented by 35 runners across nine teams as members were cheered on around the out and back loop.

The winning teams comprised of Gary Burman, Paul Whitehead, Jon Pressling, Dave Brown, Katie Giles, Kate Baldock, Kate Maslin and Debbie Burman. Everyone put in superb times with Naomi Flanagan running twice for her team!

Leading off the first leg, Ben Gerrish produced the club's, and one of the night's, fastest times with a blistering run of 9m 06s for the 3k distance.

Nick Cull proved to be the master of long distance swimming by winning the Cotswolds Swim Festival 10k. Leading from gun to tape, Nick put in a commanding performance to dominate the race and finish over 5 minutes clear of his nearest rival, in an incredible time 2h 26m 33s.

Rachel Carter also swam a superb 10k to finish as second place female and first age group in 3h 20m 28s while Richard Humphreys completed the aquatic trio with a fantastic time of 3h 17m 32s.

From 10k in the water to 10k on land, the popular Totnes 10k(ish) attracted over 500 runners and a strong showing from Torbay Tri Club. Following a beautiful but challenging off- road route alongside the River Dart, Nick Wright was first home for the club in 43.14 while Richard Smith took first in his age group with a great time of 47.22 Jerry Hocking was next across the line in 48.43, followed by Jonathan Hiscoke 49.49 Ben Reed 53.09 Ian Dabbs 53.25 (3rd AG) Caroline Louna Martens 54.36 (2nd AG) Howie Bruger 1.04.54 Naoko McKinnon 1.13.07 and Brenda Finney 1.20.34.
