Torquay United are hoping for a near-5,000 gate for their next home game, the Boxing Day Westcountry derby against NL South promotion rivals Weston-super-Mare.
The Gulls pulled in 5,000-plus attendances last season against Truro City on New Year’s Day and for the Play-Off Semi-Final against Boreham Wood in May.
Despite averaging just under 3,300 in the league this season, United haven’t broken the 4,000- barrier yet.
But they should do it on December 26 if advance sales are anything to go by.
The normal home areas of Bristow’s Bench are sold out, and United are waiting to see if they can open, or partially open, the ‘buffer’ B section which separates visiting supporters (A) from home fans.
That decision isn’t completely down to the club – police and safety authorities will be involved.
Seats in the Family Stand are going well, and United are expected to announce in due course that the Wollens Away End terrace will be opened for their own supporters as the Popular Side fills up.
