Torquay United defender under investigation
Torquay United defender Austen Booth has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association under FA Rule E1.2. The charge relates to 289 bets placed on football matches between August 2017 and July 2021.
The club statement said: “Austen is co-operating fully with the FA’s investigations. The Club will be supporting Austen throughout this process and will provide further updates at the earliest opportunity.”
FA rules state: “No Participant can bet on a match or competition in which they are involved that season, or which they can influence, or any other football-related matter concerning the league that they play in.”
Booth was formerly with the United Academy, taking his first steps in senior football with Truro City, Barnstaple Town, Buckland Athletic, Tiverton Town and Plymouth Parkway. He then moved to Taunton Town, where his fine performances in the National League prompted a return to Plainmoor.
