Two new signings for the Gulls and a stalwart sticking around

As well as entertaining the Princess Theatre audience with his tales of football folklore, Torquay United Football Advisor Neil Warnock used the stage to announce the signing of former Bath City duo Dan Hayfield and Jordan Dyer.

Hayfield, 27, started his career as a youngster at Exeter City and then enjoyed a spell in Canada. The central midfielder returned to Devon in 2020 for a stint with Tiverton Town before a switch to Bath, where he has been a key performer over the past two seasons. Hayfield has agreed a one-year deal at Plainmoor.

Dyer, 24, also came through the ranks with the Grecians and the all-action defender gained experience in a series of loan spells with the likes of Bideford, Tiverton, Chippenham, Yeovil and Bath.

In 2022, the move to the Romans became permanent and, like Hayfield, he has been an integral figure for Bath, who have been one of the top sides in the National League South over the past couple of campaigns. Dyer has signed a two-year deal for the Gulls, who returned to pre-season on Thursday.

Along with the new recruits, Torquay Player of the Season from last year, Dean Moxey, has signed a new one-year deal with the Gulls.

Moxey, 38, has been outstanding for United over the past four seasons, providing calm leadership and the immense experience gained from a long career with Exeter City, Derby County, Bolton Wanderers and Crystal Palace.

In a brand new squad being assembled at Plainmoor by manager Paul Wotton, the re-signing of Moxey ensures stability and huge knowledge within the ranks, as the Gulls head towards their opening pre-season friendly at Buckland Athletic on Friday, July 12.
