Torbay Triathlon Club members racing in Europe and at home

A trio of Torbay Tri Club members proudly flew the Team GB flag at the European Championships in Portugal as Gary Burman Peter Hayward and Laraine Gibbins all secured fantastic top ten finishes in their respective age groups in the Aquabike race format.

Comprising a 1900m swim and a 90k bike, Gary took a strong 7th place in 3.07.52, Peter 3.27.52 (9th) and Laraine 4.21.12 (10th).

Doubling up on their race action, the previous day Gary and Peter also raced for Team GB in the Aquathlon event. A 1k swim and 5k run saw Gary come home in 37.38 (13th) and Peter 44.02 (5th).

Steve Waters made a very worthwhile trip up north to the Cholmondeley Castle estate in Cheshire as he came away with second place overall in the middle-distance duathlon, completing the 56k bike and 10k run in a superb time of 3.16.39

Racing at one of the country's top triathlon venues in the heart of Rutland, Jon Parkinson and Cathy Parkinson lined up alongside a top field of age grouper at the Dambuster Triathlon. The pair put in great performances to finish in the top ten in their respective age groups, with Jon finishing in 2.27.15 and Cathy crossing the line in 2.54.49.

With 68 miles and 1700m of elevation, including climbs up to Haytor and Holne, it was no easy ride in the park for David Hewet in the Dartmoor Classic Sportive, achieving a great time of 5 hours 26 minutes.

Ben Flower's impressive race season continued in Eastbourne as he claimed 2nd age group spot in the Sprint distance triathlon race, with a speedy time of 1.15.06.

Torbay Tri Club's Parkrun series reached its halfway point at the weekend as members headed to Parke to secure valuable race points. Jon Pressling and Kate Maslin led the team home and took top points.
