Dave Fortune with a Gilthead Bream of 7lbs 10oz 4dr
Devon angler lands a dream fish
Once in a while, along comes a fish that stuns everyone, either by its beauty or size and this week we have a fish that does both, a fantastic shore caught Gilthead Bream weighing 7lbs 10oz 4dr, a fish over 200% of specimen.
The captor was Dave Fortune of Brixham SAC. A fish of this magnitude is sometimes caught by accident but this one was caught by design with Dave spending many hours trying to catch a large one. This fish came from the Kingsbridge area which is well known for holding them as are many of Devon and Cornwall’s estuaries and inlets.
Teignmouth SAS held a video and release shore match with some good Smoothhounds being landed. Bobby Drew also landed a nice Bull Huss and a Cuckoo Wrasse.
Newton Abbot FA waters have produced some good fish with a previous winner of our fish of the month competition landing a Common Carp in excess of 20lbs from Dores pond. Perch and Crucian Carp have come out from Bradley Pond and some good Tench continue to show from various ponds.
The Tackle Trader evening league Rover was fished on Wheel pond with Dean Bradford winning with a weight of 45lbs 8oz, the next two spots were taken by Sam Powell and Adam Gilpin with 42lbs 8oz and 27lbs respectively.
Newbarn Angling Centre continue to clear Lily Pond and are keen for anglers to fish it to see if there are still some good Tench in there amongst the many Rudd.
Spring ponds latest match was won by Ethan Gilpin for the second match in a row with a weight of 59lbs 4oz, all caught on the pole. Jason Fay was a very close second with 58lbs 8oz and third was Chris Packer with 52lbs12oz.
