Keeley Little
Torbay athlete setting national times
Torquay Academy student Keeley Little, 15, is continuing to set National standard performances this early in the season.
Keeley won the under-17 100m in 12.66 sec at the Devon open track and field meeting in Plymouth, later followed by a stunning win in the 300m, setting a massive new Personal Best time of 38.92 sec.
This time sets a new All Time South-West best performance, which had stood for 13 years, and currently ranks Keeley the fastest under-17 300m sprinter in England, second best in the UK behind Darcy Coslett from Wales.
Theo Glew, also from Torbay AC Juniors, had a solid run in the under-17 3000m, placing first setting a new Personal Best and county standard time of 9:22.07.
Ella Richards targeted the under-15 800m, placing second with a county standard time of 2:25.65. Leon Snell placed second in the under-15 3000m recording a Personal Best in a time of 10:17.22
Two of the clubs talented under-13s performed well, Annalise Little recorded two PBs, 150m in 21.34 sec, before showing some grit to slice six seconds of her best in the 800m to place second in a new PB 2:32.63. Freya Steward placed third in the long jump with 4.00m, and set a new PB in the 150m with 22.67 sec.
Torbay AAC were once again demonstrating strength in endurance events this weekend. Race the Tide is a local Devon event offering three routes that follow private footpaths, the South West Coast Path, bridle paths, fields, and Woodland.
Sarah Harrison showed that she is a tour de force when it comes to off road endurance races by storming home as first female in the long Marathon and it was a similar story in the Long Half Marathon with Heather Eve securing first place female and Mark Atkinson hot on her heels as 2nd mv 50.
Torbay AAC had five representatives in the annual Great West Run. The finish in the Exeter Arena made an interesting experience after running on tarmac with the last 200m being on the track. Rebecca Niles finished in a great time and a PB for the half marathon in 1:39:54 and Marta Acosta ran her first half marathon.
Rachel Collins and Glen Hawkins ran the 10k distance - no mean feat for Rachel still with a cast on her broken wrist, they finished in 1:03:54 and 1:07:00.
Four Torbay Athletic Club Juniors entered the 4k Run Exe Relay, a fast out and back course along the river Exe. A mixed team of two boys and two girls came in 26th overall out of a field of 83 teams and the 7th mixed team.
Times and order were A Ella Richards 14:40 B Oscar Eve 15:17 C Scarlett Muscott 16:23 D Leon Snell 14:04, 1 hour 24 seconds total time. Hayley Ratcliffe was sixth lady, first V55 at the Langstone fell race. This was the third run of the Dartmoor fell running series, making her second female overall in series so far and 1st V50.
It was a beautiful course from Peter Tavy up a wooded incline and on up to the top of Cox Tor. From there, it was nice fast descent over open moorland before crossing a stream and climbing up to Stephen’s Grave and on the Langstone Cross. Round the cross and back down to Peter Tavy via a wide grassy trail and then back into the woods for a technical section to the finish. The weather was just about on side - cooler, windy but almost dry throughout!
In sweltering conditions, Mary Schoenberg joined over 20,000 other runners in the Hackney Half Marathon. The East London route was lined with bands, DJs and very vocal supporters, which gave it a carnival atmosphere. The heat made for challenging running conditions. Her finish time was 2.31.55.
