Spring arrives with superb times for Torbay Tri members

Torbay Tri Club was superbly represented at the London Marathon, with Jason Hurford leading the club members home in an amazing time of 2:40:21, closely followed by Ian Tyson 2:41:21 and then a massive PB by Steve Waters in 2:49:52.

Next home was Paul Whitehead, who has battled illness for a few years, and produced a superb comeback by smashing his best time in 3:07:41 Ben Gerrish experienced a tough day over the marathon distance and dug deep into his reserves over the final 10k to take a great time of 3:18:38 and still a big PB!

A strong run from Katie Potter saw her finish in another PB of 3:24:54 and then came Kate May (the force is strong with this one), who set the World record for the fastest marathon dressed as a Star Wars character (female), as well as smashing her PB in 3:33:12.

Neil Castree secured a strong sub 4 hour time of 3:49:49, Dan Hallam had a tough last few miles after getting swept along with the amazing atmosphere finished in 4:00:29 and Katie Giles had an impressive marathon debut finishing in 4:36:42

A number of podium positions were achieved by members at the @sportiva sprint triathlon held in Exmouth, with Ben Flower leading club members home in 1.10.39 (2nd AG). Hot on his heels was Lewis Cholerton in 1.12.01 (3rd AG) and Gary Burman 1.12.42 (2nd AG) with Ian Dabbs 1.16.08 (2nd AG) and Sarah Luxton 1.29.47 (3rd AG) also joining the podium and Samara Taylor completing the team in 1.31.52. Linda Dabbs took first female place in the aquabike race

Starting in Shaldon and winding its way all along the unforgiving coast to Shaldon, Jeremy Butcher not only successfully completed the 50k Total Coastal Ultra but finished in a superb time of 6h 33m 23s for 13th place overall and an age group win from 113 finishers.

Taking their first steps into married life at Ibiza Half Marathon, newlyweds Jon and Cass completed the race before sunset and in time for cocktails with Jon crossing the line in 1.26.51 and Cass on 2.06.41.

The Mallory Park Sprint Duathlon near Leicester attracted a strong field of racers looking to qualify for the 2025 Age Group World Championships. Leading the charge was Donald Brooks who took first place overall and was joined by Peter Hayward who claimed third in his respective age group.

Flying the international triathlon flag in sunny Valencia 70.3 was Helen Chapell. Covering a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run, Helen crossed the line in a strong time of 6h 11m 13s

Rarely a weekend passes without @chrismartindevon undertaking some sort of grueling event and this week was no different as he successfully completed the 101 mile long Sportiva Events Taunton Flyer. Finishing tenth overall and second in his age group, in just under 6 hours, the feat was made all the more impressive by Chris having to work some maintenance magic on two punctures during the ride.

They call him the 'marathon man' and when one marathon just isn't enough then why not go back-to-back over consecutive weekends, just like Steve Waters. Having already smashed a marathon PB on the streets of London only last week in sub 2h50m, Steve headed up north for the Boston Marathon and did battle with ferocious winds and rain to run a superb time of 3:04:08

Torbay Tri Club's Parkrun series saw over 30 members turn the course orange and race their way around the track. Jon Pressling and Naomi Flanagan were first male and female for the club.
