Superb silverware for Torquay Rugby Club

Morgan Alcock produced a stunning individual display, notching four tries to help Torquay Athletic seal the Devon Junior Shield title with a 36-21 victory over Exeter Saracens at the Rec.

Ash Sharp and Emmanuel Oyenekan scored the other tries for the Tics, with Lewis Crocker and Jonny Brown adding the extras. Torquay were inspired in the second period, adding four tries after the half-time score was extremely tight at 12-11.

The good news continued to the junior side of the club, with Torquay U13s triumphant in a tournament at Tiverton, where the matched to the trophy with only two tries conceded all day.

Torquay RFC U16s held their final presentation evening before moving into Colts rugby next season. It has been a marvellous journey for the squad, who will switch to the new challenge of Saturday rugby as part of the next step in their development.

Paignton Rugby Club is hosting a Tag Rugby Festival on Wednesday, May 22 at Clennon Valley. The event is being held in partnership with Torbay School Games and with funding from the Move Back to Sport grant.

The festival will be delivered by Paignton’s qualified volunteer coaches and open to Years 5&6 from schools across Torbay.

Schools Liaison Officer Danny Stanton said: “Paignton Rugby Club will be delivering the festival on the day with our coaches, who can accommodate all abilities and confidence levels. “Participants that are nervous of new experiences / surroundings or new to Tag Rugby will be supported throughout the day. The aim of the event, which we hope can be an annual occurrence, will help develop friendship and self-confidence, develop physical skills  and also build confidence to engage in physical activity.

“As a local community club, Paignton Rugby Club will offer a pathway to any participants to explore the sport further."
