Tics too strong for North Tawton

Torquay Athletic recovered from a sluggish start to defeat relegation threatened North Tawton 33-14 on the weekend, writes Andy Bennett.

We struggled to get a foothold in the match in the first half and found ourselves 14-0 down, however a Tom Drake try just before half-time pulled the score back to 14-5.

In the second half, we scored 28 unanswered points in a performance that we have become used to this season. Drake added a second alongside tries for Matt Allanson, Morgan Alcock and Ryan Hanauer (29 for the season so far for Ryan). Lewis Crocker added four conversions.

Head Coach Dan Williams said: “To adapt that much to the opposition and overcome the conditions is a testament to the 18 that took to the field today.”

Next week. the Tics travel to third-placed Devonport Services 2nds. The North Tawton win pulled us five points away from Devonport. We are now five points behind leaders Barnstaple 2nds with three games to play.
