Fishermen turn on the style

Brilliant Brixham delivered another sparkling display of attacking rugby to overpower Lydney 45-20 in the mud of Astley Park.

The Fishermen sit fourth in the Regional SW Division and have racked up a superb 712 points from their 19 games so far, more than anyone else in the league, with Matt Crosscombs enjoying the honour of scoring the club’s 100th try of the campaign.

Brixham now sit two points behind Chew Valley in third, with leaders Devonport Services 13 points clear of the Fishermen and Barnstaple sitting in second. Next up is a trip to Matson on March 16 before Brixham play their final home league game against Okehampton on March 23 and then finish their season at St Austell on April 6.

This Friday brings a fascinating clash between Brixham Colts and Torquay Colts in the Devon Shield. The two leading sides do battle at Astley Park with a 7.30pm kick-off.

The U15 boys at Paignton Rugby Club have reached the quarter-final of the Plate competition after a gritty 12-5 win over Barnstaple. Unfortunately, the first-team game at Bude was a victim of the weather. The Cherries return to action with a trip to St Ives on March 16.
