Bovey bolster the ranks
The Tolchards Devon Cricket League season is just two months away and there is plenty of jockeying taking place among teams in the Premier Division.
Paignton CC will start their campaign with a trip to Heathcoat on May 4 and play their first home game a week later, when Exmouth are the visitors to Queens Park.
Bovey Tracey are another South Devon side looking forward for a tilt at the top flight and the Moorlanders have been busy in the recruitment department, signing South African keeper-batsman Musa Twala as their overseas player.
Twala has been playing for the Titans Franchise, who compete at the top level of South African cricket. Bovey skipper Toby Codd told the DCL website: “Musa matched all our criteria for an overseas for this season.
“He looks a really talented player who can offer so much on and off the pitch. They seem to rate him highly in South Africa, so we're very excited to see what he can do for us.”
Torquay open their A Division season with a trip to Hatherleigh and then welcome Plymouth for the first home fixture. One early date for the diary is an intriguing South Devon derby on June 15, when Torquay make the short trip to Abbotskerswell.
Barton CC start their B Division season with a trip to Clyst St George and the first visitors to Cricketfield Road, on May 11, will be Ipplepen. The B Division also includes Chudleigh, Soke Gabriel and Teigmonth/Shaldon, so plenty of South Devon interest.
A little further down the DCL pyramid, in C Division West, Brixham open with a visit from Ivybridge and Paignton 2nds have a home derby against South Devon. Just two months to go and cricketers across South Devon will be warming the nets with increasing anticipation.
