Torbay AAC take on a muddy challenge in Looe
The hills are hell, hence the name ‘Hillish and Hellish’, and the Looe ten-miler in Cornwall was even more challenging for Torbay Amateur Athletics Club members, who were braving the downpours and blustery conditions.
The route is one of the races of the Cornish Grand Prix, run by Looe Pioneers with proceeds going to Cornwall Air Ambulance.
The race starts in Looe with a steep climb out onto the coastal road to Talland Bay, Killigarth and Porthallow before return leg to Looe. Wet weather conditions made the route particularly tough, although torrential rain and winds cleared up around mile five and enthusiasm from the Marshalls kept spirits high.
Katie finished in 1:33:54, 15 minutes faster than last year, pbs for the course must have been in the air with Rachel Collins finishing in 1:52:00 taking six minutes off her previous time.
Glen Hawkins finished in 2:01:48, Charlotte Philippou 2:11:51 and Fay Martin 2:11:51.
Mark Atkinson and Craig Davies took on and conquered the Dartmoor Hameldown Hammer half-marathon, a tough fell race with some steep climbs and treacherous descents. The weather conditions of heavy rain and biting winds with plenty of mud adding to the challenge.
Bring on the summer!
