Torquay United Supporters Trust leading march to save the club

Torquay United Supporters Trust (TUST) has set up a crowdfunding page to help raise funds following news of owner Clarke Osborne calling in administrators.

The response to this extremely worrying news has been incredible, with messages of support flooding in from across the globe.

The Gulls host Aveley in the National League South tomorrow at Plainmoor and the attendance is guaranteed to be massive, with supporters from Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City adding to the hordes of Yellow Army looking to help United in their hour of need.

For TUST chairman Nick Brodrick, the immediate priority is to encourage fans to spend their money at Torquay United and help drive the investment for short-term sustainability. The long-term answer obviously remains incredibly uncertain but this is a scenario TUST has been preparing for over recent years.

“At the moment we are trying to support the club as much as possible by encouraging as many as possible who live in and around the Bay to go to tomorrow's match,” said Brodrick. “We encourage them to go through the turnstiles, buy drinks, match programmes and go into the club shop.

“I am aware that the administrators are already at work with their sole aim to find a buyer. TUST doesn't know of anyone but that doesn't mean there couldn't be someone out there.

“We have had an active strategy group looking at various scenarios - liquidation, administration etc - over the past few years and we are holding a succession of meetings to firm up our plans and will be making statements in due course.

“It's vitally important that as many people as possible come into the ground between now and the end of the season.”
