Challenging conditions for Torbay runners

As Torbay Athletic Club members Iaen Sell, Katie Harvie and Gemma Radcliffe took to the start line for the three-loop course around Exeter Riverside, there was rain, gales and sun all in the space of a few hours, but good supporters and a nice medal at the finish made it an enjoyable experience.

First home for Torbay AAC was Iaen Sell position 51 in a time of 1:47:12, 2nd in his age category and closely followed by Katie Harvie position 58 in 1:48:14, setting a new PB by some 13 minutes and Gemma Radcliffe setting another pb in 2:15:25.

Junior member and future GB athlete Paige Quinn ran the third fastest female parkrun in the UK this week completing the Pegwell Bay 5k course in a time of 16:49. Paige is currently the fastest U20 female athlete.

Elsewhere, Torbay Tri Club runners achieved fantastic half marathon results. Frank Reay took on the challenging Portland Coastal Half Marathon from the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.

Running along the Portland section of the South West Coast Path, the course featured some big climbs but that didn't stop Frank from racing his way to an impressive age group win and 12th place overall in 2.07.26

Steve Waters ran his way to a top ten finish at the Exeter City Trust Half Marathon in a strong time of 1.23.09. The two-lane course took runners out along the River Exe and around Countess Wear before a race back to the finish on the Piazza Terracina.

Some would call Ian McClean a little barking mad at times and last weekend he took his four-legged companion (Khani) to Haldon for a 10k canicross race through the woods. Pulled around the tough course, both up and downhill, the pair crossed the finish line in 55.23 for a top ten finish.
