Gulls struck by fourth ACL injury
The sad theme of injuries has extended to Torquay United Women, with Amy Salter confirmed as the fourth ACL victim in the past nine months ahead of the trip to Keynsham Town.
The Gulls were only able to name one substitute for the game, such is the problems with fitness in the squad, but they still produced a spirited performance before eventually going down to a 3-1 defeat.
Keynsham opened the scoring inside 15 seconds, Naomi Clipston firing past United goalkeeper Emma Ayres, who responded with two fine saves to keep her side in the game. Ocean Latto came within inches of an equaliser before Keynsham extended their lead through Hannah Price and Vickey Vipond.
The Gulls came out firing after the break and went close through Lexi Watts but she found her radar on 64 minutes, converting a deep cross from Emily Eaton. United had hope and Watts fizzed a drive narrowly over, but Keynsham held on for the win.
In the Devon Women’s Football League South/West Division, Paignton Villa stormed to an excellent 6-1 victory over Tavistock Community. Kayleigh Barker bagged a hat trick, Laura Bowden scored two and Ellice Bushell got the other one.
