Brixham ready for FA Vase challenge
Brixham AFC prepared for their monumental FA Vase trip to London with a battling 0-0 draw at Ilfracombe Town in the Toolstation Western League.
The Fishermen can now turn all focus on the challenge of North Greenford United, who are based in the London Borough of Ealing. While it is going to be a step into the footballing unknown for Brixham, the prize of a place in the fifth round of the Vase should be incentive enough for Tim Porter’s team.
Buckland Athletic, who enjoyed a Boxing Day draw at Brixham, opened their 2024 campaign with a 5-0 demolition of Welton Rovers at Homers Heath. Jared Lewington scored the first goal inside two minutes and went on to complete a hat-trick, with the other goals coming from Ryan Bush and Teigan Rosenquest.
Torquay United Women’s trip to Moneyfields was postponed but there was a special start to the New Year for the United U18s, as they beat Mangotsfield United 2-0 at South Devon College.
The young Gulls had to survive a few scares before grabbing the lead early in the second half, Liam Poole prodding home from close range, and Jacob Wellington completed the win with a delightful solo effort.
