Manager Gary Johnson used only one of six trialists on view in the first 45 minutes, and an experienced side helped themselves to goals by skipper Asa Hall, Lewis Collins Brett McGavin and last season’s leading scorer Aaron Jarvis (2). Right-winger Jack Stobbs set up Collins and McGavin for their goals, and one of Jarvis’ brace came from the penalty spot.
Johnson then made wholesale changes to the squad in the second half. Goalkeeper Rhys Lovett, who took over from Mark Halstead, Dylan Crowe, Dan Martin, Ryan Hanson and new first-year pro Callum Thomas, plus five other trialists, all saw action in the second period.
United’s next warm-up game is another behind-closed-doors affair at Bristol City U21s next Saturday.
