Police appeal for witnesses after couple assaulted by man they gave a lift to

Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a couple were assaulted by a man they had given a lift and tried to help.

On Saturday, October 17, at around 10:45pm the husband and wife were driving along the A381 between Totnes and Newton Abbott when they noticed an intoxicated man walking along the unlit road.

They offered him a lift due to being concerned for his welfare.

The suspect was initially grateful before becoming agitated and aggressive.

He then assaulted the female victim who was driving.

The driver then stopped the car on Five Lanes Road, Marldon, and the suspect was asked to get out of the car.

The suspect refused and started punching and kicking both the man and the woman, causing injuries.

The suspect is described as a white male in his mid 30s.

He is described as being around 5ft 10ins to 6ft in height, of average to athletic build and with short brown hair and no facial hair.

He was wearing a grey jacket with a white shirt and had some existing injuries to his face.

Officers investigating the incident are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident.

They would also like to hear from anyone who might have relevant dashcam or CCTV footage from the areas mentioned between 10:45pm and 11:15pm.

It is believed two vehicles stopped in the area of Five Lanes Road and their occupants would have witnessed the incident.
