Pet Remedy set to receive UK's most prestigious business award

Pet Remedy, a business specialising in calming products for animals, will be formally presented with The King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation on Thursday, October 29, in recognition of its unique, patented natural technology and commercial success.
A Torquay-based international business is set to be presented with the UK’s most prestigious business award.
Pet Remedy, a business specialising in calming products for animals, will be formally presented with The King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation on Thursday, October 29.
The company produces a unique remedy to animal stress which is a natural blend of essential oils derived from Valerian, Vetiver, Basil, and Clary Sage.
The product works in harmony with the pet’s own natural calming mechanisms and is clinically proven to help relax stressed animals.
The award recognises the company’s unique, patented natural technology and its commercial success.
It will be presented by the Lord-Lieutenant of Devon, David Fursdon, as His Majesty the King’s representative.
The Lord-Lieutenant will tour the factory facilities at 1pm, before the formal warehouse presentation begins at 2:30pm.
Pet Remedy founder Martyn Barklett-Judge reflected on this achievement.
He said: “We are incredibly proud to receive the King's Award for Enterprise.”
“This recognition is a testament to the hard work of our entire team and the groundbreaking innovation behind our natural calming products.”
Rob Tyler, Sales Director at Pet Remedy, seconded this and said: “The King’s Award is a massive milestone for us.”
“It backs up the trust that vets, pet professionals, and pet owners put in us every single day.”
The presentation follows a royal reception that took place at St. James Palace earlier this Summer.
Martyn met His Majesty King Charles III to celebrate the achievement.
He said: “Meeting the King at St. James’s Palace was incredible.”
“He was genuinely fascinated by how we use natural plant oils to help calm animals.”
“He was so warm and encouraging about British innovation.”
Before its commercial success and national recognition, the business began with one cat.
Rob explained: “Pet Remedy actually owes its existence to a stressed cat named Tigger who belonged to our founder, Martyn!”
When speaking about the journey to success, Rob said: “Pet Remedy was developed with help from a team of vets, veterinary nurses, psychiatrist, and drawing from our own knowledge and experience of aromatherapy and essential oils.”
“It took three years of trials with vets and the RSPCA to perfect the formula before launching in 2010.”
“Patents were finally granted in 2016 for the formula and method of delivery. Today, we sell hundreds of thousands of pet remedy products worldwide every year.”
The business has continued to grow over the years, expanding its reach into international markets.
He said: “Our products are sold in all major pet stores as well as thousands of vets and pet professionals throughout the UK.”
“We already export to around 30 countries, with more being added all the time.”
“Our most recent launches include Brazil, Argentina, and other key markets in South America, and we are currently working to finalise distribution agreements in Japan and India.”
However, despite this worldwide success the business is proud to call Torbay home.
Rob said: “Our goal is to keep driving this growth straight out of Torbay.”
“We love being based in Torquay”
“Our company has been based at our factory on Woodland Business Park for 40 years, long before Pet Remedy was created.”
“We are ideally located and have always had a fantastic local workforce.”
He added: “Even as we’ve scaled up to become an international brand, we've never needed to look elsewhere and we’re proud to be exporting products made in Torbay all over the world.”
