Torbay residents are being warned of icy roads, frost, and wintry showers as Arctic air settles over the region at the start of 2026.
Today (Friday 2 January):
The afternoon will bring some sunny spells, but scattered wintry showers could continue, especially in the west of the Bay. Breezy conditions will make it feel colder than the forecast high of 6°C.
Tonight:
Clear skies are expected for much of Torbay, allowing a widespread frost to develop. Wintry showers will continue across higher ground, particularly inland from the coast. Temperatures will drop to around -4°C in some areas.
Saturday:
Wintry showers will continue, mainly in western parts of the Bay, with icy patches likely on untreated surfaces. The east of Torbay will see dry weather and bright spells, but it will remain cold, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 6°C.
Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:
Cold weather will continue, with sunny spells by day and frost by night. Snow is unlikely to settle in Torbay itself, though there is a small chance of isolated snow showers on higher ground. Temperatures are expected to stay low, with daytime highs around 4–5°C.
Residents are advised to take care on icy surfaces, check in on elderly or vulnerable neighbours, and allow extra time if travelling. The Met Office and UK Health Security Agency have highlighted that extreme cold can increase risks for those over 65 or with pre-existing health conditions.
Motorists in Torbay should be aware of potentially slippery roads, particularly in the morning and overnight. Local high tides and sea conditions are generally calm, but strong winds and wintry showers may affect water-based activities.
While snow is unlikely to settle in coastal Torbay, residents are urged to stay weather-ready and check local forecasts for any sudden changes.
