Devon and Cornwall Police have issued guidance on how to report speeding concerns in Torquay following a recent traffic operation which led to three arrests for drink-driving.

In a statement shared on the force’s Facebook page, police said the update follows a post made on 30 September about the arrests, after which “numerous comments reported speeding in specific locations in Torquay”.

Police said they work in partnership with Torbay Council, SWISCo, and other agencies in response to such issues.

According to the post, the first step for residents should be to report speeding concerns to Torbay Council and SWISCo. Once a report is received, an initial assessment will take place.

If concerns are substantiated, they will be referred to the Devon and Cornwall Speed Compliance Action Review Forum (SCARF) and the Speed Enforcement Group (SEG) for further consideration. These forums evaluate whether enforcement action is appropriate.

Possible outcomes include:

  • No further action

  • Speed monitoring using vehicle-activated signs

  • Community Speed Watch

  • Police enforcement measures

  • Possible engineering changes

The force said it continues to work with local partners to address community concerns about road safety.
