Lower Union Lane car park in Torquay will move from a pay on exit system to pay and display from Monday 29 September, Torbay Council has announced.

From that date, drivers will be able to pay for parking when they arrive, either using the RingGo app or at the on-site machines. The council says the change is designed to make the car park “a more convenient and accessible option” for town centre visitors.

The update will also mean residents with a car park permit, My Bay parking permit, or a disabled parking permit will be able to use them in Lower Union Lane for the first time.

Cllr Adam Billings, Cabinet Member for Pride in Place and Parking, said: We’re committed to improving our services and delivering change that has a positive impact on our residents and local businesses. The change to Lower Union Lane car park will make it a more attractive and accessible parking option in Torquay and help to encourage more visitors to the town centre.”

Updated signage is due to be installed from Monday 22 September, and users are advised to check the new information boards.

The car park will remain open between 7am and midnight, with CCTV in operation. Lifts will continue to operate between 7am and 7pm, and the site will be subject to regular cleaning and checks.

The council confirmed that graffiti removal work will begin on Saturday 27 September, ahead of the switch to pay and display.
