Record number of top grades at Torquay Girls’ Grammar

Torquay Girls’ Grammar School is celebrating another exceptional year of GCSE results, with the highest ever number of students achieving 10 or more grades at 7 or above.

Year 11 students were praised for their dedication and resilience, with many securing top marks across a wide range of subjects.

Headteacher Ms Forster said she was “so proud of all of the students for all of their hard work and to the staff for their dedication and commitment. These results are well deserved!”

Staff at TGGS have supported and guided students throughout their studies. The school said the results highlight the commitment and hard work of the entire TGGS community.

Among the standout results were Jessica Jiang and Isla Rowe, who both achieved all grade 9s including Further Maths. They will now go on to study A Levels.

Other high achievers included Gonca Alimli, Evie-Mai Corns, Grace Kimble, Ewa Mikosz, Seren Harris, Sophie Swainson, Emily Allard, Daisy Simmonds, Melissa Batson, Isabella Shah and Ruth Hu, who all achieved grades 8 and 9. Nearly two-thirds of students achieved five or more GCSEs at grades 7 or better.

The school also reported an increase in the number of top grade 9s compared with previous years. Ms Forster said: “Today is about our students – it is their day, and we are proud to be enrolling so many of them back into our sixth form which also celebrated phenomenal results last week.

"Last year our sixth form was the 2nd nationally for state girls’ sixth forms and this year we are delighted to be welcoming boys to study their A Levels here.”

TGGS said it had received a record number of sixth form applications this year, reflecting the confidence families place in the school.

The school said it was confident students would continue to flourish whether staying on at TGGS or pursuing new challenges elsewhere.
