Torquay-based Cavanna Homes has appointed Ben Jobson as its new Director of Development.
Ben, 35, grew up in Abbotskerswell and attended Torquay Boys’ Grammar School. He joins the regional housebuilder from the Vistry Group, where he was Regional Operations Director. His career also includes roles with Persimmon Homes, social housing provider Devon and Cornwall Housing (now LiveWest), and Barratt Homes.
In his new role, Ben will oversee land acquisition along with commercial and technical operations, while working closely with all departments across the business.
“We’ve got some brilliantly talented people who are excellent at what they do – and I want to play my part in helping the business and the people to succeed,” he said.
Ben believes Cavanna Homes, which has operated as a family-owned business for more than a century, is well placed to meet the challenges currently facing the housebuilding industry.
“For the first time in many years there is no Government support to get people onto the housing ladder,” he said.
“The land market is also competitive and with the protracted planning system, although the Government is talking about improvements, it could be a long time before we see any tangible results.
“As a respected SME in the Westcountry, Cavanna Homes is very well placed to move quickly to respond to opportunities and provide appropriate housing developments where they are needed.”
Paul Moran, Group Managing Director of Cavanna Homes, welcomed the appointment: “I have worked with Ben at both Barratt Homes and Vistry Group and know he will bring his creativity and outstanding people skills to the role of Director of Development here at Cavanna Homes.
“This is a challenging but exciting time for the sector and with Ben as part of the team, we are in a strong position to move forward successfully in continuing to meet the housing needs in the South West.”
Away from work, Ben enjoys spending time with his two young sons and occasionally playing golf. He said he is pleased to be continuing his career in the South West with a regional housebuilder that has strong ties to the area.
