The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra is bringing a performance of Elgar’s mighty Cello Concerto to Exeter.
On Thursday, February 13, at 7.30pm, the orchestra will perform at the Exeter University Great Hall.
The programme features Elgar’s Cello Concerto, Beethoven’s Symphony No 1, and R Strauss’s Death and Transfiguration, making it a must-see event for fans of classical and romantic symphonies.
Elgar’s Cello Concerto, composed in the summer of 1919, reflects the angst, despair, and disillusionment the composer experienced in the aftermath of the Great War.
One of the leading cellists of her generation, Laura van der Heijden, will perform this iconic piece under the baton of conductor Alexander Soddy.
The programme also includes Strauss’s Death and Transfiguration, a powerful work depicting a dying man recalling the great loves of his life in an emotionally charged, dramatic soundscape.
Tickets start at £17 and are available at https://bsolive.com/events/cello-elegy-exeter/
