Captain Hook and Mr Smee are bound for Cockington
At Torbay Communities, we are celebrating our tenth anniversary and have been planning a series of events over the year.
We have already delivered The Torbay Communities Celebration Ball at the Grand Hotel, The Shanties by the Sea at The Berry Head Hotel, and The Torbay Community Champions Awards in partnership with Torbay Weekly.
The teams working behind the scenes on these, the sponsors, entertainers, attendees, venues, and general support from the community, have been fantastic; thank you so much; you are all stars!
It has been lovely to see people enjoying themselves in a range of exciting ways. The next stop is Cockington at Christmas, and bearing in mind that last Christmas focused on Star Wars and 60 years of Doctor Who, linking up with the space-themed year at Cockington, it is fair to say that things are going to be shaken up and rather radical again this year.
Sadly, we are moving away from the very popular Vader and Friends Grotto, The Light Sabre Academy, Doctor Who props, and space-themed cosplay. However, we are moving onto something pretty darn awesome!
We are working with Cockington Court on the 8th of December to bring about another unique event. This year we have Captain Hook and Mr Smee running the grotto, with The Mapmaker and The Sam O’Shanty Puppet Show making up one fabulous experience.
You can book by visiting Cockington Court or by visiting their website. There will also be a Christmas artisan fair taking place, with the Meatball Shack, The Velvet Buccaneers Bar, and Cask performing on the day.
To add to the magic even more, we will be running a Disney-themed Lego competition and fancy dress/cosplay competition, hosted by some of Hook's villainous comrades, as they all have a crack at being good this Christmas. This will be fun and theatrical, with the likes of Hades, Ursula the Sea Witch, and Maleficent running the show.
The judges will decide who the winners of the competitions are after the event, and prizewinners will receive a special visit from Santa and some surprise characters before Christmas as they deliver their prizes. The fancy dress competition is Disney themed, which also covers Marvel and Star Wars. Hooray!
This is a fantastic opportunity to meet likeminded people, take some amazing photos, and have an absolute blast.
To book onto a Lego Workshop or to take part in the fancy dress/cosplay competition, please check the Torbay Communities website, Facebook page, or contact me directly on joeydamiral@torbaycdt.org.uk.
