Community Matters: The Torquay and Paignton Timebank

Torquay and Paignton Timebank Afternoon Disco

By Ruth Tshoukas, the Paignton and Torquay Timebank broker and Community Builder

Last month, I was at the afternoon disco at the Conservative Club in Preston. It was brilliant as usual and Bob, who runs it with his pal Richard, sang as he often does. What a powerful voice he has, it’s worth going just to listen to him!
The discos are once a month, on the first Thursday. The next one will be February 1st. It’s a really fun afternoon. They have a raffle, and the only charge to go in is a pound if you don’t belong to the club, but it's free if you do. I often meet and catch up with Timebank members there.
The seated yoga group also meets at the club on Thursday at 11 o’clock. I’m often there, so you can also find out more about the Timebank there if you want to.
The Timebank is about sharing time and skills with your neighbours, we meet regularly in various venues across the bay, do come and join us. So far it’s:
At the Bright Bean Café in Preston opposite Tesco, from 2pm every Week on a Wednesday
•    At Centrepeace on the first Friday of the month from 2.00 pm.
•    At The Hyperspace Café in Lidl Square on the first Tuesday of the Month from 10.30 am.
•    At The community hub in Temperance Street, Torquay, on the first Monday of the month from 10.30 am.
If you would like to add more venues to this list, do get in touch.
Come along and join me for information or to join up, have a coffee and hopefully meet other like-minded people.
Torbay Together is the online platform for the Timebank. (www.devonconnect.org/torbay) Register on the platform but then you need to do a little bit more and fill in another form to join the Torbay Timebank. If you don’t use a computer I can help. Come along to one of our regular meetings or give me a ring.
