Are you looking for an exciting new challenge where you can make a difference in your local community in 2023?
Then why not sign up to one of Rowcroft Hospice’s fundraising events?
The charity is offering something for everyone throughout the year, with all events raising vital funds to care for local patients living with life-limiting illnesses.
To find out more about the opportunities listed here, take a look at Rowcroft’s website at rowcrofthospice.org.uk.
First up and open to all, on Saturday, March 18, it’s The Big Tackle.
Previously known as The Male Trail, this eight-mile sponsored walk around Torbay starts and finishes at Torquay Rugby Club with participants welcomed back to the club after the walk for a free pint, pasty and the screening of the Six Nations Rugby.
As the warmer weather approaches, our wonderful local community across South Devon will be hosting a glorious season of beautiful open gardens for you to visit and enjoy this spring and summer, while raising funds for the hospice.
If you love your garden and would like to show it off to others, then please get in touch via Rowcroft’s website.
During the week of May 15-19, it’s Make a Will Week - the perfect chance for you to make or update your will, with local participating solicitors waiving their fee in return for a donation to the hospice.
If you’re looking to get active, then why not take on one of Rowcroft’s virtual challenges - Ride for Rowcroft or SUP Your Way. The great thing about these events is that you can do them at any time that suits you, and you can set your distance and choose your route too.
Or you can dance your socks off by taking part in Rowcroft’s dance event this September, where you’ll groove the day away while raising much-needed funds to care for our patients and their loved ones.
If you’re looking for an exhilarating adventure, Rowcroft has the perfect adrenalin-pumping challenge just for you! You can take to the skies on the wings of a 1940s Boeing Stearman biplane for the wing-walking trip of a lifetime. Or you can experience the thrill of skydiving as you soar through the skies from 15,000ft.
For magical and unforgettable memories, Rowcroft is offering three exciting new trekking challenges: a moonlit night walk to the top of Mount Snowdon in Wales; a beautiful five-day hike through the spectacular Mont Blanc region of the Alps; or a stunning Jurassic adventure taking in the breath-taking vistas of the Dorset coastline.
Whichever challenge you choose, you’re sure to have the experience of your life!
If you prefer instead to support the hospice from the comfort of your armchair, then why not sign up for Rowcroft’s lottery? You can play our lottery for as little as £1 per week, and there’s the chance of winning some jaw-dropping cash prizes: £1,000 every Friday, and a twice-yearly superdraw prize of up to £4,000.
Details of all the above - and more events coming soon – can be found on Rowcroft’s website at www.rowcrofthospice.org.uk. Please do support your local hospice and join in the fun!
About Rowcroft Hospice
It takes time, compassion, medical expertise and money to help patients and families make the most of every day, but every year Rowcroft Hospice helps more than 2,000 people living with life-limiting illnesses in South Devon to do just that.
By providing comfort, support and specialist services in patients’ homes, the community and at Rowcroft’s Inpatient Unit in Torquay, the hospice enables families to share precious and joyful moments when they are needed most – whether it’s a beautiful wedding, remarkable reunion, simple thank you or gentle cuddle.
At Rowcroft’s premises in Torquay, the hospice’s team of doctors, nurses, social workers and a range of other health and social care professionals provide specialist care in its Inpatient Unit. Rowcroft also cares for out-patients and their loved ones, offering therapies, bereavement support and medical consultation in an environment that helps patients and families make the most of precious time together.
From Dartmouth to Dawlish, Rowcroft cares for 80 per cent of its patients in their own homes with a team of community nurse specialists, social workers, and bereavement volunteers. The team also provides occupational therapy, physiotherapy, complementary therapy, spiritual care and music therapy, delivering a holistic approach tailored to individual needs.
Due to the needs of our increasingly ageing local population, the demand for Rowcroft’s services has never been greater. The charity currently cares for around one in three people with life-limiting illnesses across South Devon and has ambitious plans to expand its care to reach more people.
Rowcroft is an independent charity with around 75 per cent of its funding derived from the incredible generosity of local people. The hospice team fully acknowledges the current challenging economic climate and is grateful for the local community’s continued support through these tough times. Every penny raised through donations helps patients and their loved ones to make the most of every moment they have together.
