Paul Jolly: Don't miss the last chance to see these classic cars

The Southwest Vehicle Auctions in Wareham

I always look forward to the final classic car auction of the year at Southwest Vehicle Auctions in Wareham, an easy 2 hour drive from South Devon.

Thursday 30th Oct is one for your diary and should not be missed.

A high proportion of offered lots are dropheads and this is exactly the time of year to pick up a soft top bargain for next summer. Many are without reserve which adds to the excitement and assurance that regardless of the bid, the car might be yours for a song.

The undoubted star of the show and frankly, the standout auction car of the year is a one owner 1990 Ford Sierra Sapphire with just 2487 miles from new and in time warp, as new condition. Offered with no reserve this unique lot is the closest you will see to a new Sierra anywhere and I expect fierce bidding here. See also a rare Sierra XR4X4 guided at £5-6000.

Super value sportscars include a pair of Mercedes 230SLK’s which are a highly useable, cheap alternative to the older SL’s of the 1990’s, of which there are also another pair. Prices from no reserve to around £7500 for the older ones.

No less than six MGB’s and a Midget are offered plus three MGF’s, all of which are now fantastic value. Triumphs are represented with a Stag, Spitfire, TR6 and a Herald whilst for something quite unusual, take a look at the Reliant Scimitar SS1 soft top at £1500/2000 guide and a Lotus Elan M100 series around £5000.

Included are two Peugeot limited edition 306 Roland Garros convertibles, both in green with one at £2000-3000 and the other with no reserve. There’s also a Porsche Boxster 2.7 representing great value around £6500.

America is represented with a Mustang, Cadillac Coupe de Ville and 1969 Lincoln Continental but despite low estimates, any of these will require a huge garage and frequent visits to the fuel station.

The car that started it all off is Ford’s Model T and the 1926 two seat droptop offered here celebrates its centenary next year. Quite amazing.
