Those lost in a Home Guard tragedy on Corbyn Head 81 years ago have been remembered in a memorial service back at the Torquay headland.

Those lost in a Home Guard tragedy on Corbyn Head 81 years ago have been remembered in a memorial service back at the Torquay headland.
On 11 August 1944 they were taking part in a practice shoot when the breach of their gun exploded. Four Home Guards were killed instantaneously, with one Regular Artilleryman and another Home Guard member later dying from their injuries.

The Torquay Royal British Legion, Sea Scouts, Sea Cadets and members of the Brixham Battery Heritage Group and Museum were there to pay their respects.

Among the civic dignitaries were Torbay mayor Barbara Lewis and her consort Chris Lewis and deputy mayor Hazel Foster and her consort Kevin Foster.
