A new food and culture event, the South West Sardine Festival, is set to take place on Sunday 3 August 2025 at the Old Fish Market in Brixham, South Devon.
Running from 12pm to 9.30pm, the free one-day festival aims to bring together residents and visitors for a celebration of seafood, live music and community. Organisers say the streets will be filled with performances from local musicians, helping to create an atmosphere inspired by sardine festivals held in Spain and Portugal.
The event pays tribute to the English Riviera’s maritime heritage and will feature freshly grilled, responsibly sourced sardines from the Southwest. All sardines served will be MSC-certified. Food and wine will be available to purchase throughout the day.
A line-up of well-known chefs is expected to attend, including Nathan Outlaw, Ben Tonks, Mark Hix, Mitch Tonks, Steven Lamb, Matt Tebbutt, Jane Baxter, Jack Stein and Kirk Gosden. They will demonstrate the culinary potential of sardines through live cooking and tastings.
Visitors will be able to sample grilled sardines and specially selected festival wines, with additional food and drink options available from local producers.
The family-friendly event will also include entertainment for children, with performances by magicians, jugglers and other interactive activities.
The festival is being organised by the Brixham community, with support from the English Riviera BID Company, Brixham Council, Rockfish, Sound Seafood, Brixham Trawler Agents, Bay Coffee Co and Torbay Council.
