A once-popular Paignton pub on the site of a successful holiday park could be converted into seven new homes.

Owners the Haulfryn Group want to convert the Blagdon Inn, which is on the site of the Devon Hills park on the outskirts of town. Part of the pub building dates from the fifteenth century.

The planning application says there would be ‘minimal’ alterations to the outside of the historic building.

Up until the summer of 2024 the pub and restaurant, which already has living accommodation on the first floor, was open for business, But, says the planning application, it had lost £250,000 in 2023 and the same again in 2024, leading to the decision to close it.

All of the staff have been re-deployed elsewhere on the holiday park, with no job losses.

If permitted, the plan would see five apartments created on the ground floor to go with the two above.

Devon Hills has around 90 staff and is one of the biggest rural employers in the area.
