Pier Point marks National Fish and Chip Day with £10 lunch

Torquay restaurant hosts £10 lunch offer and seafood tasters to celebrate industry and raise funds for fishing charity

Pier Point marks National Fish and Chip Day with £10 lunch

Pier Point Bar & Restaurant will mark the biggest day in the fish and chip calendar, National Fish and Chip Day on Friday 6 June with an event celebrating one of the UK’s most popular dishes.

Now in its 10th year, National Fish and Chip Day recognises the work of those across the industry – from fishers and farmers to restaurants and takeaways.

Gary Lewis, President of NEODA, which launched the day in 2015, said: “National Fish & Chip Day has always brought the nation together to celebrate this iconic dish. Everybody wants to celebrate this amazing industry — from the fishers who go out in all weathers to catch the delicious fish, and the farmers who grow and harvest the perfect potatoes and peas, to the fish and chip shops and restaurants who take those fresh ingredients and create our family favourite.”

Pier Point, located on Torquay Marina, will be offering a £10 deal on its light bite fish and chips for diners eating in the restaurant between 12pm and 2pm. The restaurant recently received the title of Fish and Chip Shop of the Year at the Fishermen’s Mission Awards.

‘Albert’, the mascot of the Fishermen’s Mission charity, is also due to make an appearance as part of the event. Staff will be serving tasters of locally caught seafood and raising funds and awareness for the charity, which supports fishing communities across the UK.

The restaurant says it only uses sustainably sourced fish and will offer samples of lesser-known species such as rock salmon, coley, gurnard and skate wing to help promote underused local catches.

Owner Lorraine Arnold said: “National Fish & Chip Day is such a fun, feel-good event, but it’s also a time to recognise and support the amazing people who make it all possible — especially the hardworking fishers and the Fishermen’s Mission who support them. All our fish is sustainably sourced, and we love using this day to raise awareness while celebrating a dish the whole country loves.”
