Angela, a professional singer and former student at Torquay Grammar School for Girls, is the musical director for the Torbay Gilbert and Sullivan Society’s upcoming production of Iolanthe – Unleashed.
The show will be staged at the Royal Lyceum Theatre in Torquay on 10 and 11 May, with principal sopranos Alex and Sarah among the cast.
Iolanthe – Unleashed puts a fresh spin on Gilbert and Sullivan’s classic operetta. It celebrates the creativity at the Royal Lyceum and updates the original script with a witty narration, replacing the traditional – and often lengthy – dialogue.
The plot, which sees a group of mischievous fairies reform the House of Lords, offers a playful take on parliamentary politics. Members of the Torbay G&S Society have embraced the humour and energy of the production, which promises to be both entertaining and thought-provoking.
Both performances are matinees, designed to offer audiences an enjoyable afternoon at one of Torquay’s most historic and beautifully restored theatres.
Tickets cost £10 in advance via www.unleashedtheatrecompany.com or by calling 07795 640458. Tickets will also be available on the door for £14.
Angela will also be performing locally as a soprano soloist in Stabat Mater at St John’s Church, Bridgetown, Totnes, on Good Friday, 18 April. Entry is by donation, with proceeds going to Medical Aid for Palestinians.
For more information about the society or the upcoming shows, contact Torbay G&S chairman Pat Harding on 01803 323801.
