Sailors have done their bit to help raise money for the Torbay Lifeboat.
During the 2024 Wayfarers and Contenders Dinghy National Championships hosted by Paignton Sailing Club, the members provided homemade teas, cakes and scones for the participating sailors as they came off the water each day, and in return donations were made to the local RNLI.
Torbay Lifeboat Fundraiser’s chairman Peter Thorp was invited along to one of the club’s social events recently where the Commodore Morag Aiken presented a cheque for £150 to him.
Peter said: "This wonderful support from local organisations such as Paignton Sailing Club provides the very life blood which financially supports the two Torbay Lifeboats. On behalf of the crews a very big Thank You to Morag and the club”.
Morag indicated that the club intends to repeat this and hopefully raise even more for the RNLI when they host this year’s championships, events and regattas and has an RNLI collecting box for members and visitor donations. "It is important that users of the waters of Torbay and our visitors support the local RNLI," said Morag
Paignton Sailing Club is a dinghy sailing club and RYA Training centre with excellent access to Torbay waters from the sandy and scenic Paignton Harbour. It has club racing on Wednesday evenings from April 1 and Sundays and welcome all to drop in.
If you are interested in giving sailing a go there is also a Discover Sailing Day on May 3.
