The Torbay Branch of the Royal Naval Association is celebrating its 80th anniversary.
Founded as a branch of the Naval Old Boys Association on September 26, 1945, it later became the Torbay Branch of the Royal Naval Association. The original standard was laid up in St Paul’s Church, Paignton.
To mark this milestone, the branch will plant an oak sapling on the Cockington Estate near Torquay. They are working with The Coast and Countryside Trust to identify the best location for planting.
Members of the Torbay Royal Naval Association actively engage in ceremonial events, including remembrance parades, D-Day commemorations, and Armed Forces Day.

As a registered charity, the association fundraises and donates to military charities, cadet forces, and other worthy causes.
A spokesperson for the Torbay Branch said: “We are always seeking new members. If you are currently serving in the Royal Navy, an ex-RN personnel, or part of the Commonwealth Navies, WRNS, or QARNNS, you are very welcome to join one of our meetings.”
The association holds its monthly meetings on the last Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm at the Palace Avenue Conservative Club, Paignton.
