Band Sekrement
Torbay's young people have shown they have talent.
A live launch of Torbay’s SONAR Sessions at Stage Left in Paignton was a sell-out.
Hosted by Sound Communities CIC, young performers played to a capacity crowd. Headliners The Scribes (well known national touring hip hop performers) gave numerous shout-outs for the vital work Sound Communities is doing to give opportunity and voice to young people across Torbay.
The acts were:
Sekrement: the band are Sound Communities regulars and have developed an impressive and punchy presence on stage.
Lauren Rose: a fan of Sound Communities, Lauren brought a mix of acoustic and electronic songs that held the audience spellbound.
Sound Communities performer Issy Carlisle freestyled with a member of The Scribes in a jaw dropping moment of hip-hop togetherness.
Lewis Jackson is a Sound Communities performer who brought beautifully-crafted songs and embracing energy to the stage.
Hip hop’s South West superstars The Scribes closed the night with lyrical tricks, human beatbox, and uplifting freestyle hip hop.

Sonar Sessions’ is a new series of radio shows from Ocean Youth - a radio station run by young people for young people based at Winner Street, Paignton. With 33,000 listeners, the station is now expanding its schedule with a series of specialist shows offering all young people in our area aged 16+ the chance to make radio, music and podcasts about things that interest them.
Sonar Creative Producer Daisy says: "There’s no other radio station that caters for us 16+ young people so why not do it ourselves? I want Sonar to give us the voice to share our hobbies, interests and talents – wherever you live across our area. If you join Sonar you can learn to run your own radio show."
Daisy leads the Sonar Sessions, holding them at the Ocean Youth Radio Station, 1-3 Winner Street in Paignton between 4.30pm and 6.30pm every other Thursday. Next sessions are on February 6 and March 6 and every other Thursday after that.
Launch headliners The Scribes support Sonar’s opportunity for all young people in the area, saying: "As independent musicians who have been performing and making music since our teens, we fully understand how important it is for young artists to be given platforms to hone their craft and share their work, especially those who may find it hard to access such spaces. We are therefore ecstatic to be able to support the launch of Sonar Sessions which is set to provide exactly these types of opportunities to a whole range of young adults in the South West, we couldn't be happier to be involved!"
