Wales & West Utilities have announced further gas pipe upgrade work will begin in a busy area of Torquay.
Wales & West Utilities will start work to upgrade the gas pipes in the Reddenhill Road area of Babbacombe in the new year.
They say the work is essential to ensure the safe flowing of gas to heat and power local homes and businesses for generations to come.
As part of the work, it has been agreed with Torbay Council that traffic management measures will be in place from January 2.
This includes multi-way traffic lights at the junction of Reddenhill Road and St Anne’s Road, whilst a road closure will be in place at the entrance of the rear of St Anne’s Road between January 2 and 17.
Additionally, a one-way restriction on Reddenhill Road will be in place while two-way traffic lights will be in place on Babbacombe Road between January 13 and 27. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time.
Barring any engineering difficulties, the project will be finished by the end of the month.
Wales & West Utilities Travis Wheatle is managing this gas pipe upgrade work and said: “We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the wider area. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner, or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.”
