The MS Society is launching a new Community Connections service to support people living with multiple sclerosis (MS) across Wales and the southwest of England.
The service will help individuals connect with essential services, activities, and resources to live well with the condition, which affects around 17,000 people in the region.
The project, which runs until 2026, offers financial advice, energy efficiency guidance, and assistance with the Priority Service Register for vulnerable households.
Working with local Citizens’ Advice services and health and social care providers, the project will ensure people with MS can access benefits advice and wellbeing services.
Funded by Wales & West Utilities through a £213,000 grant from the Vulnerability and Carbon Monoxide Allowance (VCMA), Community Connections will also recruit staff to support the initiative.
A recent MS Society survey found that 7 in 10 people with MS have unmet needs regarding the benefits system, and this service aims to empower them to access the support they require.
Leila Middlehurst Evans, Community Connections Manager at MS Society Cymru, said: "We are thrilled to be launching the Community Connections project to provide comprehensive support for people living with, and affected by, MS across Wales and the south west of England. We’re incredibly grateful to Wales & West Utilities for the funding provided.
“MS can be debilitating, exhausting and unpredictable. Timely support that empowers people with MS to navigate local services and access vital resources will make a huge difference in enabling them to live well with MS."
