A Torbay charity is on the crest of a wave after a cash boost from the Rotary Club of Paignton.
Mary Gray, Community Fundraising Officer for The Wave Project, was greeted at the club's recent dinner at The Paignton Club, where President Matthew Clarke presented a cheque.
The charity improves the mental health and well-being of children by offering award-winning surf therapy sessions. Surf therapy is an evidence-based programme that enables children and young people to build confidence and overcome anxiety barriers through surfing.
Mary updated the club with what’s happening down at Goodrington Beach and how the club’s donations are changing children’s lives.

Matthew said: "Paignton Rotary’s twin club, Dokkum, in the Netherlands, very generously donated £1,000 to the club on their visit to join in on the club’s centenary celebrations. After much discussion with the members, it was decided to donate this to The Wave Project.
"The club then decided to double this by adding the raffle money collected at the celebration dinner. A Rotary district grant of £1,000 was obtained, which made the total £3,000."
The funding support won't stop there. From December 3 for one week only, any funds collected for The Wave Project will be matched by a group of supporting companies. So the £1,000 donated by Dokkum has become £6,000.
Matthew added: "This means the Club will be making a real change to the lives of many of Paignton’s children."
