He has expressed deep concern over the potential closure of the town centre office following news that it is one of 115 branches at risk.

"The Paignton Post Office is a vital community hub, especially for our elderly and vulnerable residents. Losing it would be a devastating blow to our local businesses and economy," said Mr Darling.

He has written to the Secretary of State for Business and Trade demanding a full assessment of the closure's impact and a public consultation before any final decisions are made.

He has also pledged to fight alongside residents to keep this essential service open.

Mr Darling said: “This closure, if it goes ahead, would be another devastating blow to Paignton’s already struggling town centre.

"We cannot afford to lose such an important service, especially when our local businesses and residents are already facing tough times.”

He has vowed to urgently contact Post Office bosses and government ministers to demand that Paignton be removed from the list of closures.

"This is a fight I’ll be leading on behalf of everyone who relies on the Paignton Post Office. We need to make sure our town centre remains strong and accessible for all," said the MP.
