South West Water has invited locals as well as Brixham MP Caroline Voaden to one of their series of community events - with a water bug likely to be one of the main talking points.

The next event being held in Brixham will give local customers and businesses the chance to ask questions to their team of experts.

Crypto, the water bug that affected thousands in the port just a few weeks ago, is bound to be on the agenda.

The event will include a panel of South West Water representatives and will be run by an independent chair. People attending have been given the chance to send their questions in advance to try to give as many people as possible a fair opportunity to raise their points. There will also be a chance for ad hoc questions from the floor if time allows.

Following the detection of cryptosporidium in the Brixham area in May, South West Water teams worked tirelessly, carrying out extensive interventions to remove the bug from the water supply system and to return drinking water quality to its usual high standard.

The event is one in a series that the water company is hosting across the region as part of its renewed effort to connect with communities, address customer concerns and share its investment plans for the future.

David Harris, Managing Director of Water Services at South West Water, said: “We know the rare events in Brixham earlier this year had a significant impact on local people and businesses and for that we are truly sorry. While the situation has thankfully been resolved, we know some people may still have questions. We have organised this event to give customers the chance to hear from us in person and we look forward to answering as many questions as we can at the community meeting next month.”

The event is taking place at Scala Hall, Brixham Town Hall, New Road, Brixham, TQ5 8TA from 6pm-7.30pm on Thursday September 12.

Spaces for the event are limited, please register you interest and submit your questions at www.southwestwater.co.uk/brixham-meeting
