Play Torbay to turn 25

Play Torbay is celebrating its 25th-anniversary party this week, with a big birthday bash on Saturday 6 July from 2.00 – 4.00pm at Indigos Play and Ecology Centre, Packhall Lane, Brixham.

For two and a half decades, Play Torbay’s mission has been clear: “To improve the quality and quantity of play provision for children and young people living in Torbay.”

The registered charity offers fun, accessible play opportunities all year round including playground adventures, play days and special events.

Play Torbay hopes that the event can be a moment to bring together all those who have made the organisation special over the years.

Speaking about the event, Director Tanny Stobart said: “We are inviting people, who have especially contributed and supported Play Torbay over the years.

"We have asked Emberlense to create a film clip which we can have on the Play Torbay website during our 25th year. We would like to hear different people’s play memories over the years and additionally children’s dreams for the future.”

There will be all sorts of activities at the party, including bouncy castles, slacklines, water slides, huge bubbles and cream tea refreshments. Also part of the celebration, Play Torbay is proud to announce that it has become an associate partner of Associate Partner of the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark.

Tanny added: “In recognition of this we are planning to work with artists Weird Sticks to create a series of eight ‘Inquisitive about Indigos’ nature geo play sessions across this summer holiday to encourage children and families to come to play, whilst at the same time finding out about the Geopark and its significance.

“The plan is to develop the site so that there is a special entrance arch to the higher woodland area which would be created from willow and hazel using different coloured willow to represent the geological layers and the rock formation of Torbay.”
