New groups and clubs are springing up

All sorts of welcoming events in Preston

Preston is a welcoming, vibrant community, so much energy and I’ve been investigating the different activities and groups. I’ve met some community members, spoken to cafes, shops and business owners and started making connections with churches.  I’ve heard some exciting ideas for new activities and groups too and have started to help make some of these ideas real and come to life!
A new breakfast Club is starting on April 12th, it will take place each second Friday in the month.  If you fancy some company and a chat come along to The Four Seasons Café, 345 Torquay Road, Preston TQ3 2EP, it’s on from 10am – 12 noon.  We are hoping that this will be popular and eventually happen each Friday.  Have a tea/coffee and/or breakfast (big or small).  A wonderful way to start your Friday morning.  All freshly cooked and reasonable prices.  Dates are:
April 12th, May 10th, June 14th, July 12th, August 9th, September 13th, October 11th, November 8th and December 13th.

Torbay lost some groups and activities after lockdown, some people I meet ask about Bereavement Groups, there are not many in Torbay so with some help from some locals we have created a new Bereavement Group.  The Redcliff Hotel has kindly helped by providing a meeting room for us.  There is parking and tea/coffee and refreshments are available at the bar.  The group will happen on third Friday of the month, again, if popular we can meet more regularly.  If you have had a loss and need some support please come along to this friendly group. Everyone is welcome.
Dates are 17th May, 21st June, 19th July, 16th August, 20th September, 18th October and 15th November.

Fed up with seeing litter? I found a group making a difference.
I visited the litter picking group a few weeks ago on a cold and blowy Monday morning!  I met the group in the Colin Road Car Park at the entrance to Parkfield in Preston and we all got stuck in! The group collected 4 bin bags of rubbish.  The group started in March 2022 at the request of a Preston resident who hated seeing litter everywhere. After advertising in the local community magazine a small group of willing volunteers came together meeting monthly to clear the rubbish and pick up broken glass from the Skateboard area of Parkfield. This is a continuous battle but very rewarding when clear and safe again. The group have litter pickers and bag rings and newcomers are always made very welcome. The next dates are 29th April, 20th May and 24th June

In the school summer holidays there will be a family litter pick, all generations getting together to make a difference.  Bring a snack and a drink. Meet at the Parkfiled Entrance in the Colin Road Car Park, Preston, Paignton on Friday 12th July at 10am.  Please wear strong shoes/boots and bring your own gloves and litter picker, if you have one.  Some litter pickers and bags will be provided.  Let’s keep this outdoor facility safe and clean together.  We can move onto other local areas too like Preston Beach and Green if we have the people power!

At our Celebrate Preston event back in November last year we had many suggestions and ideas for activities and events, one of the most popular was coach day trips out and about.  A lovely local lady has made some enquiries with a local coach company and has found out about some trips coming up. Picking up/Dropping Off from Paignton. To book please call 01803 864161 or alternatively email mail admin@abcoachesdevon.co.uk.

We also had a few people wanting an event on Preston Green this summer, they are sure it would be popular with locals.  They can’t make this happen alone and need some help, if you or your business can help please contact me on the number below.  If they have enough interest, we’ll hold a meeting to begin the process and make this happen!  What will it look like, how will it be funded? Who and what will be there?  Are you passionate about and event like this and would like to help. Please contact me and I can connect you all together.
