Torquay hotel fire treated as 'possible arson'

Police are investigating a possible arson after a fire broke out in the Sherwood Palm Hotel on Belgrave Road in Torquay yesterday (March 12). 

Belgrave Road was closed for several hours with at least seven fire engines and fire crews from Torquay, Paignton, Newton Abbot, and Totnes dispatched. 

The fire was reportedly on the ground floor of the hotel and nobody was hurt. 

A Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at around 8.05am on Tuesday 12 March following reports of a fire at a property on Belgrave Road, Torquay. The fire service also attended. Nobody present was hurt.

"The cause of the fire is being treated as a possible arson and a police investigation is ongoing.

"Anybody with any information is asked to report it by calling 101 or via our website quoting crime reference 50240059185."
