Review: Fresh faces and old favorites at Torquay Comedy Club

If you’re ever looking for an idea for a fun night out, you can always book tickets for Torquay Comedy Club at The Imperial Hotel. You are guaranteed a great atmosphere and a selection of comedy masters, that will have you in agonising stitches. The most recent event on January 19th was no exception.

The host for the night was David Arnold, a familiar face on the comedy circuit. He had the audience instantly laughing as he warmed us up for the night ahead… and his glitter ball motorbike helmet moment was unexpected and made the whole room roar with laughter.

Elliot Steel, a young but seasoned comedian, was next on stage and his unflappable lightning skill at improvisation when faced with audience input was hilarious. Brilliant comedic delivery, and definitely a comedian you will want to see again. Kev Mud confidently bounded onto stage for his set and using his previous experience of being homeless, he charmed us with the funny side of life’s hard knocks. Easy to see why he reached the finals of British Comedian of the Year.

Next, we had Dani Johns from Bristol, bubbly and lively, tackling the messier and more absurd aspects of human existence, using her own experiences to notch up the comedy. She engaged with the audience well and delivered a great set to raucous applause. Last but definitely not least we had Adam Bloom, A Time-Out Comedy award winner who has also appeared on Mock The Week and Russell Howard’s Good News.

Adam came onto the stage, bringing with him his twitchy fast-paced energy that did not let up on the laughs from start to finish. Sides were definitely hurting in the audience. The venue itself was a little on the cold side, and the bar was understaffed so a long line for drinks, but the staff were friendly and everyone was made to feel welcome.
