Torquay's most famous cat has gone missing.

Teddie, who’s well known by residents and business owners alike for his friendly nature and adventurous spirit, is used to venturing far from home and has amassed thousands of followers on social media.

However, after a minor run-in with a car, Teddie failed to come home last weekend and remains missing.

His last confirmed sighting was at Soho Bar nightclub. The bar said: "Unfortunately, due to being under the age of 18 years, we have had to eject Teddie from the premises. He certainly loved running away from security."

Teddie rose to fame in the community after his owner, Robyn Wearing got a cat flap installed in her Ellacombe house.

“They were just tearing up my wallpaper and wanted to go out,” Robyn explained.

“So we decided to let them out and in one of the first weeks that we had the cat flap put in he walked all the way to town. Someone had to call me to say they’d got my cat.”

“It's kind of just started from there, he just walks so far. He then walks into people's houses, because he's just so friendly, he's got no sort of sense that it isn't his house. And then it turns from people's houses to people's shops. Then ambulances, then cars, and then nightclubs, it's just ridiculous.”

Teddie’s friendly nature meant that people across Torquay began to recognise him. Robyn started a Facebook page so people could send in photos of Teddie on his adventures. The page now has thousands of followers, with people following from Wales, France, Australia and the US.

Robyn said: “I can’t believe it’s blown up like this. Teddie just keeps exploring, but he always knows how to get back. He had been going from Ellacombe to Babbacombe pretty much every other day.

“I was getting phone calls about him being in shops over there, but he would always walk home. Sometimes, people would drive him home because they were worried but he always knew his way back.”

However one night, Teddie didn’t make it home. The day before going missing he had had a minor run-in with a car. When he had been given the all-clear by the vet, Teddie was back on his way.

“However, instead of going on his normal route, he walked into Pound Stretcher, Warrens Bakery, Select Shop, the barbershop and then the Nightclub down the arcade.

“He’s not come home since. Obviously, it's not his normal route. He must have just lost his bearings. But I’m worried someone might have pinched him because it’s very odd for no one to have seen him.”

Teddie’s fans have been desperate to see him come home.

Robyn said: “People are honestly too kind. The other day we thought we'd found him after someone messaged me and about five people shot up there. Some woman messaged me saying she's got sausages in her pocket to try to encourage him.”

She added: “I still have a lot of hope. He’s so well known and knows how to look after himself so I’m sure he’ll eventually make it home.”
